The Officers and Delegates of the Great Dane Breed Council were saddened to learn of the recent passing of Jean Lanning JP – Clausentum.
Jean was famous for many things but her name will always be connected to the import Danelaghs Quillan bred by Nancy Carroll Draper. Sparingly used he had a great influence on our breed. Many might like to know that Jeans affix Clausentum was the Roman name for Southampton. Jean was well-known as an all-round Championship show judge, qualified to judge many breeds in all groups. She completed many years work for the Kennel Club sitting on various committees having originally joined from the Ladies Kennel Club. She was a wealth of knowledge and the last of the early Post War Breeders, she will be greatly missed by many. A great supporter of our wonderful Breed and known to many throughout the world in the dog fancy generally. RIP Jean, your knowledge and dedication will be sorely missed.
